Rainey Daze and Crazy Nights

Poetry, Paintings, and Ponderings: Through My Eyes

Rainey July 21, 2010

Me?  Where do I start?  It’s hard to tell about myself.  On the surface, I guess people would say I am funny with a dry sense of humor.  Humor is the weapon I use to make life bearable.  I will drop everything to help those I love.  I am a dreamer. Dogs and children have my heart. I love to learn and grow and I am never static.  I suffer from depression.  I look for the good in others, but often can’t find it in me. I am creative and love to paint and take pictures.  I would spend every day of my life making jewelry, taking photos,  painting, and drawing if I could.  I stay too busy at times so I don’t think about the huge issues in my life.  I am a complicated woman.  I often want to run away and start a new life.  I believe music makes my life complete, and listen to Pandora Radio as much as I can.  I am a spiritual person but I don’t believe in organized religion. I love to party and I enjoy being with fun people. I have two dogs I love more than I love most humans because they KNOW me (really know me) and still accept and adore me. I listen to the ever-changing sound track of my life.  I love to travel and often become depressed when I must return home.  I adore riding on the back of a motorcycle up a winding mountain road at dangerous speeds.  I am a survivor of childhood sexual and emotional abuse.  As a teen, I hid from my inner demons by using drugs, alcohol, and sex.  It didn’t work.  I usually feel unlovable, but don’t really know why.  I think most therapy sucks, but if it works for you, go for it.  I have a very long bucket list, but I actually work on mine and check things off.  One day, I will be a hippie woman living in a tiny cabin on the side of a mountain painting and dancing (I will be a legend among local kids) and living off the land.

My name is Rainey and that’s my story.  What’s yours?

  1. Rainey, I just saw a comment you left about your bipolar daughter on Motherhood Umbrella.

We have a similar story to tell, a similar history that we can dole out in small bits, so listeners and readers aren’t getting filled from our shame.

I’m sorry your daughter is in a downward spiral – do not hesitate to encourage her to get help – or have her committed, if necessary.

My son, 15, was diagnosed with bipolar at age 6, and with Asperger’s at age 9.

Life is possible after such serious diagnoses, but life unlike what you had before.

There is no luxury of lying in bed and mourning what WAS, there is urgency to take care of what IS.

And life, as it is right now, is still so very precious.

Please don’t quit fighting the good fight.

Believe me, I have not given up on her or on me, but I have been in a funk the last few months. It does help to blog about it, but I know I sound so down and negative! I really am an upbeat, easygoing person, but I also tend to keep my stronger emotions inside. Blogging allows me to get it out in a healthy way. By now, I know the ups and downs are part of our lives, but it is so hard to see your beloved child suffer so much.
I am amazed at the number of people I’ve talked to recently who have children diagnosed with bipolar at a young age. How is it I didn’t see it in my daughter sooner? I’m reading what I can about it, but I’ve found that real life stories from those in the same boat help me to understand better.

    Hi Rainey,
I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. You can see how it works on my award post here on Armitage Agonistes, http://wp.me/p3DuBO-1hP and if you decide to participate, you just need to follow the rules for the award, which are:
    • Display the Award Certificate on your blog (just cut-and-paste it from my post)
    • Write a post and link back to the blogger who nominated you – that’s me!
    • Nominate 15 other bloggers (I’ve kept to 10 as 15 seemed quite a lot)
    • Inform them of their nomination via comment on their blog
    • Post 7 interesting things about yourself.
Whether you join in or not, I just want you to know that I nominated you because I enjoy your blog and thought you would like to see it shared with some new readers.
    Perry
