Poetry, Paintings, and Ponderings: Through My Eyes

Having Fun December 30, 2012

It is cold today. This is a great day to curl up with a good book or watch a movie on the tube. My preference, of course, is to curl up with my computer and edit my photos.  I love going back through old ones and discovering a different beauty that I hadn’t noticed before.

Photography has become my newest way to express myself. I am very much an amateur, but I am okay with that. I know what I like, so I take pictures of it. All I have is my little digital Nikon and a free online editing program, but it suits me for now. I don’t have the drive to make jewelry or complete paintings at this point in time; I hope I feel those creative urges again. As long as I can write and produce some visual type of work, I am a happy soul.

Most of my posts are on my other website. I don’t write anything, except the titles, because I want my followers to have their own sense of the photograph. Many of my photos I take because I felt some feeling or mood in the frame, but I don’t know if that comes across to others or not. So, no words, just photos so it can evoke an emotion in you. I save my words for this blog!

Here are a few for you to (hopefully) enjoy.

Summer Through the Lens July 20, 2012

A doe was kind enough to stop for a photo.

A field of happiness!

Stopping for a quick sip…

I wonder what lives here?

Watching the sun sink into the trees…

Time for a snack!

A rainy summer day…(sigh)

I love the ease of summer days. Earth dresses in lush, vibrant colors and nature peeks out of every corner. Animals stop to say hello and the world is wrapped in a heavy warmth that lingers in my bones.

Summertime Flowers June 26, 2012

imageI’ve been busy today. I painted clay pots in many colors and let them dry in the sun. Then I went to a local nursery and picked up a variety of flowers and plants. I chose whatever appealed to me because I like all colors, shapes, and sizes (Same way I am with people and animals :)). When I returned home, I planted all of my new finds and decorated the porch. It felt so good to dig my hands in the dark soil! In the photo is one of my larger flowerpots overflowing with summertime!

Colorful Beauty May 1, 2012

I wish I could capture the beautiful variation of colors in this flower in one of my paintings.

Trees and Flowers April 27, 2012

Trees and flowers are my favorite things to draw and paint.

Seek the Beauty April 24, 2012

It is unfortunate that I, along with many of you, have seen way too much pain and ugliness in this world. I see it in the suffering eyes of children, teenagers, and adults. When I look in the mirror I often see pain-filled eyes staring back at me. Once you think about it, ugliness lurks in every shadow and every street corner. At times it just seems too much to bear. The burden is too great and I feel too lost and alone. Then something happens; I notice the tiniest detail, such as a flower poking its little yellow head out of the ground, or the silly face of a puppy when it wants to play. These little bits of beauty are just what I need to remind me that for every bit of ugly, there is a bit of beauty in the world. I look up at the sky and see the universe stretched out in all of its glory. The colors of the ocean, or the bright red on a ladybug remind me of the loveliness around me. I have learned that I must find a balance so the ugly parts of life don’t overwhelm me and keep me from seeing the beautiful parts. The trick to finding that balance is to remember….remember to look for the beauty. That is my goal now, every single day that I am alive: to actively seek the beauty and the good. I know it’s there. It’s my job to find it.

Flowers of Spring April 22, 2012

It’s a dreary day here today (although I love a good rainy day when I don’t have to go out) so I thought I would post another picture I took of some beautiful spring flowers. Hope you all enjoy! 🙂

Flower Photos to. . . . . .Suicide?

My own flowering bushes… It is strange how a picture such as this can lead to a fiction writing about suicide. I took this picture yesterday and when I looked at it earlier today it somehow sparked the post ‘The Destruction of  Flowering Bushes’ (see previous post). It just shows you how my mind works! 🙂

Back in the Studio…Sorta April 7, 2012

I worked in my studio some today. It still doesn’t feel quite right; I can’t really get into it for some reason. I’m going to try again tomorrow. Maybe if I get up first thing and go in there and paint, I can find my muse again. I miss painting, and how it makes me feel. Anyway, here are some pieces that just needed the final protective spray. So at least I did something!

Beauty March 25, 2012

I am ready to see the flowers of spring and summer!

There is something about seeing beautiful flowers in bloom that makes me feel hopeful. After seeing plants that were seemingly dead come back to life, it gives me hope that any of us can do that. We just have to hang on, and wait for conditions to be right again for us to grow. And,  just like a flower, we not only can grow but we can blossom into something unexpectedly beautiful.
