Make me promises

of better days to come

I need to believe

there is still hope.

Make me promises

even if they are lies

of love yet found

and smiles yet seen.

Make me promises

of a future worth living

speak of beauty

I’ve yet to see.

Make me promises

that forever you’ll stay

holding me close

whispering new promises.

Snow Limerick

There once was a snow storm in the south

It hit us like a punch in the mouth

We bought milk and bread

then hunkered down in bed

awaiting the thaw of the south.

Majestic

softly falling snow

colors the landscape with white

erasing all flaws.

Winter Please Stay February 8, 2014

I love cold weather. I don’t know how to explain it; cold weather, especially if there is snow, makes me happy inside. I love putting on layers of clothing and my good pair of snow boots and going outside to play, walk around, and take pictures. I even enjoy being inside on a cold snowy day, window blinds open to the beauty.

I feel almost the same about a cold, rainy day. Give me a warm beverage, my comfy socks, and a good book to read….that makes a great day! It’s not pleasant, however, if it is a humid, sticky rain; I prefer it cold!

This winter has been colder than usually around here. Many friends are complaining, and begging spring to hurry. Me? I am quite satisfied. Nothing would make me happier than a cold, snowy February.

Where Were You, When I died? February 1, 2014

Where were you, when I died?

Watching the game

with your hand deep in a bag of chips

licking the bits from your fingertips?

Where were you, when I died?

Driving to work

mind drifting and problem-solving

as you dart in between the cars?

Where were you, when I died?

You were right here

beside me, looking past with glazed eyes

as I crumbled.

You were right here

and you never even noticed.

Breadcrumbs January 14, 2014

I look behind me

And see

Scraps of paper and

Digital bits

These are the breadcrumbs of my life.

Will these be all

To show I once lived?

Or will evidence show

That I mattered?

Only time will tell.

Until then follow the breadcrumbs

To find me.

The Darkness Returns January 11, 2014

A dark blanket has wrapped around me. I don’t know why; everything is going well, and J is on an even keel. For no reason at all, two days ago my spirit plummeted. I feel on the verge of tears. I find no pleasure in my usual activities. I’m taking my medicine and nothing has changed.

It is frightening how quickly moods shift and the darkness takes over. Mine usually begin with something concrete that happens in my life, some problem that sends me spiraling out of control. This is different. Everything is going well in all aspects of my life, and suddenly I want to sit in a corner and cry or slit my wrists. Mental illness is such a sucky beast.

Peace December 25, 2013

I know that it is difficult for many to make it through this time of year (myself included). Just know that you are not alone in your feelings, and that there is a brighter and better tomorrow. Take a deep breathe and take it one moment at a time. If being around relatives is difficult, just remember: YOU control how you feel. Do not give others that power. Do not allow yourself to fall into the trap of being reactive.

If you are alone (not by choice) try volunteering at a soup kitchen or shelter. You will be lifted by what your kindness can do for others.

I wish you all peace, love, and joy this holiday season.
